Biometric Residence Permits change to Royal Mail

Since Monday 18 September, the Home Office have no longer been using FEDEX/TNT to deliver Biometric Residence Permits (BRP), and have instead appointed the Royal Mail to do undertake these deliveries.

However, the Royal Mail will not require a signature for delivery – for those with experience of FEDEX/TNT, you will no doubt recall they would only advise of the date of delivery and it could be between 08:00 and 20:00 with no specific time, so you no longer have to wait for the entire day for a courier – one or two of our staff will be happy to see the end of this! The BRP will now be posted through the letterbox, and if this is not possible a Royal Mail card will be left, so collection can be made from a specified Royal Mail delivery office – one should be warned that ID may need to be shown.

Please also note, once the BRP is with the Royal Mail, the delivery address cannot be changed. It will therefore be important for individuals to ensure the correct address for delivery is stated on the visa application form and if for example, an applicant has moved address, that the Home Office system is updated for a change of address, otherwise the BRP may be delivered to the applicant’s previous address perhaps unsigned!
